A green test score and a failing field report are not a contradiction. They measure different things, and only one of them counts.

The responsiveness metric in Core Web Vitals changed: INP is now the stable metric and it succeeded FID. That is not a small adjustment. FID only measured the delay before the browser started handling your first interaction. INP measures how long the whole interaction takes to produce a visible result, across the entire visit.
That change hit Magento storefronts harder than most. A Luma theme leans on a large JavaScript stack, and every tap on a filter, a swatch or an add-to-cart button has to wait for it. Stores that passed FID comfortably started failing INP without anything having changed on the site itself.
The other trap is measurement. A lab test on a fast connection tells you what is possible; the field report tells you what people actually got. When those diverge, the field report is the one Google uses, and it is the one your customers lived through.
The three metrics fail for different reasons and need different work. Treating them as one number is how optimisation projects waste money.
How long until the main content is visible.
How quickly the store reacts when someone taps.
Whether the page moves under the visitor.
We will not tell you that passing Core Web Vitals moves you up ten places. Relevance beats speed. Where it decides things is between two comparable pages, and that is worth having.
A visitor who abandons before the page responds costs you the sale directly, regardless of what Google does with the metric. That is the number we would rather steer on.
We work from what your actual visitors experienced, across devices and connections. Optimising for a test score produces a green dashboard and unhappy customers.
One new marketing tag can undo months of INP work. This is the metric that decays fastest, which is why monitoring belongs with it.
Fixed phases with a fixed price per phase. No open ending.
Lab and field data per page type, so we compare what real visitors experience against what a test tool reports.
Week 1Where the milliseconds go: server, cache, database, theme or third-party script. You get the findings ranked by impact and effort.
Week 1The fixes that pay off immediately, applied on staging first and verified before they go live.
Week 2The heavier items from the diagnosis, quoted separately so you decide what is worth doing.
Week 3 to 4The same measurements again, side by side with the starting point, plus what to watch from here.
Week 5We do not only tune other people’s Magento stores. We build and maintain them, which is why we recognise the patterns quickly.

The questions we get most about this.
Because they measure different things. The score is a lab test on a simulated device; Search Console reports what your real visitors experienced over the past 28 days. The field report is the one that counts, and the gap between the two is usually where the interesting problem is.
Under 200 milliseconds at the 75th percentile is the passing threshold. Luma stores often sit well above it on mobile, particularly on category pages with layered navigation, which is where we usually start.
Modestly, and only alongside everything else. Anyone promising you a ranking jump from speed alone is selling you something. The stronger case is conversion.
The field report uses a 28-day rolling window, so give it a month after the work lands before you judge it. We measure directly in the meantime so you are not waiting blind.
Yes. Marketing tags are one of the most common INP culprits, and we run server-side tagging ourselves, which is often the cleanest way to get that weight off the main thread.
