Hyvä ships a much lighter frontend than the default theme. That only helps if the frontend is what is holding your store back.
Wij bouwen en beheren onder meer Gripzakjes.nl, Pharmaprofit.be en Modernemeubels.com.
The Hyvä theme is now open source and free, available under the OSL and AFL licences. You do need a customer account to get a licence key, and an account covers a limited number of keys, but the cost barrier that used to make merchants hesitate is gone. Predictably, the advice across the Magento world has converged on migrating.
The technical case is real. The default Luma theme leans on a large JavaScript stack, and Hyvä deliberately does not. On mobile that difference is not subtle, and it shows up most clearly in interaction responsiveness rather than in raw load time. How much you gain depends on your store, which is why we measure yours rather than quoting someone else's numbers.
But a lighter theme does nothing for a store that is slow because its cache is misconfigured or an extension runs a heavy query on every page. That is why we measure first. If the answer is that migration will not fix your problem, we would rather tell you before you spend the money than after.
The cost is driven by three things: how many extensions you run, how much custom theme code you accumulated, and whether you need B2B functionality.
Customers should not notice anything except the speed.
The part that decides the budget.
Proof that it was worth doing.
If your time to first byte is already poor, the browser has not even started yet. A lighter theme cannot rescue a slow backend, and we will show you the measurement that proves it.
Company accounts, quotes and shared catalogues add real work to a migration. Sometimes it is still worth it, sometimes the same budget buys more elsewhere. You get the comparison, not a recommendation dressed up as a fact.
If you are already considering a replatform in the next year, spending on a frontend rebuild first is usually money you will not get back.
Some Luma stores are perfectly fast because someone did the boring work properly. If yours is one of them, congratulations, and keep your budget.
Fixed phases with a fixed price per phase. No open ending.
Lab and field data per page type, so we compare what real visitors experience against what a test tool reports.
Week 1Where the milliseconds go: server, cache, database, theme or third-party script. You get the findings ranked by impact and effort.
Week 1The fixes that pay off immediately, applied on staging first and verified before they go live.
Week 2The heavier items from the diagnosis, quoted separately so you decide what is worth doing.
Week 3 to 4The same measurements again, side by side with the starting point, plus what to watch from here.
Week 5We do not only tune other people’s Magento stores. We build and maintain them, which is why we recognise the patterns quickly.
The questions we get most about this.
Projects start around €7,500 and are quoted per phase. The three things that move the number are your extension count, the amount of custom theme code, and whether B2B features are involved. We fix the price per phase after the inventory, so you are never signing a blank cheque.
A straightforward store typically runs six to ten weeks. Complex B2B implementations take longer. We will give you a range after looking at your extensions, not before.
Only if you want it to. The default is that we rebuild your existing design, so customers notice the speed and nothing else. A redesign is possible in the same project, which is often the efficient moment to do it.
We inventory what you actually use, which is usually fewer than what is installed. For each one there is a Hyvä-compatible version, a rebuild, or a decision to drop it. That inventory is what makes the quote reliable.
The core theme is open source and free under the OSL and AFL licences. There is a condition worth knowing: you need a customer account to obtain a licence key, and an account covers a limited number of keys. You pay for the migration work, not for the theme. Parts of the wider Hyvä ecosystem are still commercial, and we will flag any that your build needs.
Hyvä is a Magento theme, not a separate platform, so your data, catalogue and admin stay exactly where they are. That is a meaningful difference from a headless rebuild.
