Magento makes demands on memory, background jobs, search and caching that shared hosting almost never meets.
Wij bouwen en beheren onder meer Gripzakjes.nl, Pharmaprofit.be en Modernemeubels.com.
Magento is not a heavy application by accident. It expects a search engine, a cache server, a queue for background work and enough memory to compile its code. Take any of those away and it still runs, just slowly, and nothing you do in the theme will fix it.
We see this constantly on hosting packages sold as suitable for Magento. No Varnish, so every page is rendered from scratch. No Redis, so sessions land in the database. Cron running once an hour, so indexers never catch up. Search falling back to a database query on a catalogue of 30,000 products.
Moving to an environment that actually fits is often the cheapest performance win available, and it can usually be done in a day with no visible change for your customers other than the speed.
We host Magento ourselves, so this is not a checklist from a vendor brochure. It is what we run in production.
The difference between rendering and serving.
Where large catalogues fall over.
The part that decides whether it stays fast.
Our own Magento stores run on the infrastructure we are describing, including one with more than 40,000 products. We know where it breaks because we have had it break on us.
If your current host can be made to work, we will tell you what to ask them for. Moving is a recommendation only when the numbers support it.
Copy, verify on the new environment, switch DNS with a short freeze, watch. Done outside business hours, with a rollback path that we have actually tested.
Cron silently dying is one of the most common causes of a store that gets slower week by week. We alert on it rather than discovering it during the next audit.
Fixed phases with a fixed price per phase. No open ending.
Lab and field data per page type, so we compare what real visitors experience against what a test tool reports.
Week 1Where the milliseconds go: server, cache, database, theme or third-party script. You get the findings ranked by impact and effort.
Week 1The fixes that pay off immediately, applied on staging first and verified before they go live.
Week 2The heavier items from the diagnosis, quoted separately so you decide what is worth doing.
Week 3 to 4The same measurements again, side by side with the starting point, plus what to watch from here.
Week 5We do not only tune other people’s Magento stores. We build and maintain them, which is why we recognise the patterns quickly.
The questions we get most about this.
It can start, but it will not stay fast. Magento needs memory, background processes and services that shared plans do not provide. If you are on one and the store is slow, that is where we would look first.
From €1,500 for a straightforward store, including verification on the new environment and the switch itself. Complex setups with custom integrations are quoted after we have seen them.
There is a short freeze on new orders while the final data sync runs, typically well under an hour, scheduled outside your busy period. The store stays readable throughout.
Both. We run managed Magento hosting on our own infrastructure, and we are equally happy to specify what your current host needs to change. Whichever is cheaper for you is the honest answer.
Our infrastructure sits in the EU, which matters for GDPR and for latency to European customers. If you need data in a specific country, tell us and we will confirm before quoting.
